AMERICAN billionaire Donald Trump is preparing a high stakes bid to control Scotland's casino industry.

He heads a pack of five gambling kings bidding to take advantage of the UK's proposed gambling laws.

Property tycoon Trump, worth more than £3billion, already owns at least six casinos. He wants a slice of the action when the green light is given here for a series of new 'super-casinos'.

The star of BBC2's hit TV series The Apprentice will face some rather stiff competition from the world's other casino heavy hitters.

But Trump, 58, whose mum, Mary MacLeod, was born in Stornoway, Lewis, plans to elbow competitors out.

He said: 'If deregulation happens, I'll have one of the strongest gaming companies there. I love the place.'

The Scottish Executive has agreed to accept the terms of Westminster's Gambling Bill, which would allow casino developments in any part of Scotland.

Scots spend an average of £80 a year each on gambling. The UK average is just £52.
