Mega Millions Ticket Sold in New Jersey Hits Jackpot

Somewhere there is a Mega Millions ticket that contains the numbers 10,24,35,49,52, and the Gold Mega Ball number 47. That ticket may be in someone's wallet, or lying on a dresser or tossed in a car's glove compartment. Hopefully that ticket is in a safe place, because it is worth an estimated $165 million.

The jackpot winning ticket was sold in Bergen County, New Jersey. This is the largest jackpot won so far in Mega Millions' young life.

Mega Millions fever has been building for the past few weeks. And Mega Millions didn't disappoint, with more than one million winning tickets able to claim prizes from last night's drawing alone. The holders of 18 tickets can each lay claim to the second prize of $175,000.

Those tickets matched the first five numbers and only missed the Gold Mega Ball number. Four of those tickets were sold in New York; three each in Illinois and Ohio; two each in Massachusetts, Michigan and Virginia; and one each in Maryland and New Jersey.

Even without the jackpot, Mega Millions players won a total of $8,106,349. Here is a breakdown:

Mega Millions is played in nine states: Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey New York, Ohio and Virginia. Officials in Washington State have announced plans to join the fun in late September. Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesday and Friday nights at 11:00 PM eastern time.
